With Bated Breath: September New Releases

September 1, 2014 by Heidi

Dear me, it’s been just shy of a year since I did a With Bated Breath post!  Well if I’m gonna renew them, September is the time to do it–fall is always the time for my favorite and most anticipated releases of the year!  This month brings new Fables, October Day, Mercy Thompson shorts, and the end to two highly anticipated YA trilogies–Unmade and The Caller.

I’ve already had the good fortune to have read several of these titles, but there are others I can’t wait to grab!  Fall heralds my usual dive back into the dark with horror, urban fantasy, and high fantasy.  Bring it on!

September 2nd

Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs
Maplecroft by Cherie Priest
The Winter Long by Seanan McGuire
Fables Vol 20: Camelot by Bill Willingham

*wistles* It appears I still haven’t read the last October Daye book…already bought the new one though–love when those things come in early!

Season of Storms by Susanna Kearsley
Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini
The Jewel by Amy Ewing
Carnival of Lies by Melissa Marr

I’ve realized in the past year that I quite enjoy Susanna Kearsley. Some of her older work is being repackaged, including Season of Storms.  Though it’s my least favorite of her titles that I’ve read thus far, it was still a lovely read.

September 2nd/9th

Girl Defective by Simmone Howell
The Graham Cracker Plot by Shelley Tougas
Tomboy by Liz Prince
The Terror of the Southlands by Caroline Carlson

The Caller by Juliet Marillier
Monstrous Affections ed. by Kelly Link and Gavin J. Grant
The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare
Spirit’s Key by Edith Cohn

Oh friends, The Caller was the series finale I’ve been waiting for!  Loved it so.  Reviews for both that and Spirit’s Key, one of my favorite Middle Grade titles of the year, will appear soon.

September 9th/16th

Evil Librarian by Michelle Knudsen
The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O’Brien

For Laura Ingalls Wilder lovers, Little Author was a great read!  I’ll be hosting author Yona Zeldis McDonough on the blog later this month.
