With Bated Breath: November New Releases

With Bated Breath November

If you saw my post yesterday, you realize that I had no power for most of the week, and as a lazy blogger of course I hadn’t scheduled much ahead.  Ergo, my With Bated Breath for the month is a couple of days late!  There aren’t as many releases in November as there were in September and October, but there are some of my most anticipated:

  • The sequel to Leanna Renee Hieber’s Darker Still: A Novel of Magic Most Foul
  • Laini Taylor’s Days of Blood and Starlight
  • The final installment of the Matched series by Ally Condie
  • The (probably) final installment of the much beloved Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier
  • Two–count ’em–TWO Fables related volumes (I really don’t talk about Fables enough on this blog, but I LOVE it)
  • The (probably–at least for now) final installment of my favorite UF series, The Edge by Ilona Andrews

That’s it for me this month!  Mostly the trailers aren’t worth getting excited over, I apologize.  As always, let me know what you’re most looking forward to this month!

If you liked that you might like this:

  1. Alyssa says:

Wow Stan is going to be spending more money on me this month than I thought….he already has calendar alerts for Flame of Sevenwaters (obviously) and Days of Blood and Starlight…moving Bill Willingham and Philip Pullman off of Santa’s list and onto the I NEED THESE NOW THANKS list.

Ahh, November will be a good month.

    • Heidi says:

Lol, poor Stan! I’ve already got the Laini Taylor and Bill Willingham on hold at the library, so I’m going to be patient and just wait on those. I’m starting a Christmas wish list for things I won’t be able to get through the library though!

  2. Sarah says:

Moonshifted! I am so, so excited for that book! It’s one of the two new UF series I’ve loved after testing out a ton of them.

I was super psyched for Days of Blood and Starlight, but I’m tempering my expectations after reading some early reviews that have said it’s much more traditional fantasy (which never works for me–I know that makes me very uncool) than the unique urban fantasy of the first book.

    • Heidi says:

Ooh, I’m curious as to what the other new UF series that you’ve been enjoying is?

Yeah, I’m not sure how to approach DoBaS. I’m glad to be going in knowing how different it’s going to be. As a huge fantasy fan, I’m sure I’ll love it regardless, but I’m glad to know ahead that that’s what I should expect rather than more of what was in the first.

  3. Jamie says:

Oh lawdy. I need to find a job soon because this unemployment thing is not working out for my book buying habits. lol

SO many good ones in November! Super excited about Meant to Be! I still need to read Daughter of Smoke & Bone!

  4. Li says:

I’m glad you made it through Sandy safely (despite losing power).

I am obviously massively excited about FLAME OF SEVENWATERS and also Laini Taylor’s follow-up. Hopefully, STEEL’S EDGE is a good wrap-up to the Edge books.

    • Heidi says:

Thanks, Li! Those three are THE books I’m most excited for this month…even if I still have books to read in both the Sevenwaters and Edge series before I can get to them. I have Child of the Prophecy at home now, and just requested Fate’s Edge from the library! I’m sure I’ll be putting Steel’s Edge on my Christmas wish list. I hope it’s a good wrap up as well, but I’m so sad the series is ending. I honestly like it even more than Kate Daniels.

  5. Ahhh I am currently 1% into Sirens and am digging it. I’m trying hard not to compare it to The Diviners.

I also preordered Passion Blue awhile ago after seeing it was like $4 with a Megan Whalen Turner blurb.

Friggen November has so many awesome books coming out.

    • Heidi says:

Yeah, I’m trying hard to not get sick of the 20s fad before I even read one–that’s what happened with me and mermaids! And YES, I hope that Passion Blue is good, I’ll be waiting to hear your opinion. MWT can sell me on just about anything. =)

  6. I love so many of the books releasing this month! I’m most excited for DoBaS, Meant to Be, and Rootless. I also just received a copy of Daughter of the Sevenwaters in my mailbox today, so I’m glad the last book is out – I won’t have to wait to finish the whole series now! :) I’m also an official Ilona Andrews fan – the second Kate Daniels book was SO GOOD. I definitely need to get my hands on the third novel since I have the fourth and fifth and am dying to devour the whole series. Anyway, yet another awesome edition of “With Bated Breath”, Heidi! 😀

    • Heidi says:

OMG you started reading Kate Daniels?! How did I miss this?! YAY!! And yes, you DO need to get your hands on the 3rd because it’s the BEST.

Everything about this comment makes me incredibly happy. I’m so excited for you to read Magic Strikes and DotF, I can’t even stand it.

  7. VeganYANerds says:

Every month this year has been filled with fantastic books! I am keen to read Reached and I must read DoSaB so that I can read the sequel!

    • Heidi says:

Oooh, you really must! I think you’ll love DoSaB, it’s just so unique. I’m unsure about Reached, but I’ll certainly be reading it! I didn’t love Crossed, but I did like it. I want to read the ending of the trilogy, but won’t be rushing out to buy it either.

  8. Holly says:

November 6th is a good day. That is all.

  9. I want you to do a post all about Fables. I keep seeing people reading them, posting pics of them, etc. but I guess I just don’t know what they’re all about and why they’re so good. (and I’m lazy so instead of looking it up, I’d rather someone I trust (READ: YOU) just tells me why I should read them)

The hair on the Colin Fischer cover creeps me out a bit.

I want to read so many of these but I think one of the things I love about your blog so much is that you read MG/YA fantasy with covers like the one on the new Karen Cushman book. For some reason, I seem to really like books with covers in that drawn style (like Lloyd Alexander, Tamora Pierce, and a lot of fantasy) but I never know which NEW ones to pick. You are amazing at recommending them.

    • Heidi says:

Flan–FABLES LOVE has been on my Google calendar as posts to write for literally months! I keep swearing I’m going to write a post, and I will–I promise!

And you’re totally making me blush, friend! I will endeavor to continue to be good at recommending things. 😛

  10. ROOTLESS by Chris Howard!!!! There are others here too. November is a very good month.
