With Bated Breath: May New Releases

With Bated Breath: May

Happy May Day!  I hope everyone’s ready for the absolutely ridiculous amount of stunning new releases scheduled for this month–I’ve over 50 here alone!  I want to hold off on The 5th Wave till the series is out, but with trailers that good, it’s going to be hard!  The trailer for Icons is also good, but has me thinking…it could almost be a trailer for And All the Stars and that concerns me (there’s no way it’ll be as good).  Additionally, the trailer for School for Good and Evil is adorably epic, and I’m fascinated by the art in The Ressurectionist.  I enjoyed the Five Summers trailer as well!  As someone who made some of her best friends at camp growing up, this book appeals to me as a summer read.

May 1st/2nd/7th

May NR 1

In the Garden of Stone by Susan Tekulve
Quicksilver by R.J. Anderson

Nothing but Blue by Lisa Jahn-Clough
Criminal by Terra Elan McVoy — I’ve already read this one and really enjoyed!  It’s much darker than McVoy’s previous work, and she does a great job of putting readers into the place of an unsympathetic character and making us feel for her.
The End Games by T. Michael Martin

May NR 4
Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong by Prudence Shen and Faith Erin Hicks — I’ve already read this one as well, it was so much fun! I’ll be having Prudence Shen and Faith Erin Hicks stop by later this month for a Q&A.
The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr
The Originals by Cat Patrick
Icons by Margaret Stohl

May 7th/14th

May NR 5

Two Rapunzel retellings on the same day?  Woohoo!  Though personally I have much higher hopes for Sold for Endless Rue.

My Top 5 Most Anticipated in May

May Most Anticipated
That’s right folks!  I have TWO contemps, one of which is a novel in verse on my most anticipated list.  Clearly I’m pushing myself out of all sorts of boxes.

What are you most looking forward to this May?

If you liked that you might like this:

  1. Chachic says:

I’m really curious about both The 5th Wave and Wild Awake because I’ve been hearing good things about those books on Twitter. Also looking forward to reading Under the Light!

  2. Bonnie says:

I really cannot wait to get my hands on 5th wave! School Spirits was SO much fun, I hope you enjoy it too!
    Bonnie @ Sweet Tidbits

  3. Your restraint when it comes to holding off on series until they’ve been completed will neve cease to be amazed. I’ve been in rabid anticipation of The 5th Wave ever since Sarah @ Clear Eyes, Full Shelves started talking it up a couple months ago, and there’s no way I’ll be able to resist reading it right away. Same with Wild Awake, which I’ve also heard nothing but good and super intriguing things about.

I love your monthly new releases posts, Heidi. Here’s to a wonderful May!

  4. The 5th Wave and Lucy Variations are the only two books I seem to be interested in this month since I’ve already read Golden, Out of This Place, Wild Awake, and Dare You To. I am SO EXCITED for The 5th Wave, though. It should be excellent! :)

  5. May is definitely an exciting month for releases! Usually I’m lucky if there are two books in any given month that I actually am interested in reading, but not the case here! Reboot, The 5th Wave, The End Games, Doll Bones, The Rose Throne, Golden, Wild Awake…I’m excited for them all! I have no idea how to even start forming my TBR list right now haha.

  6. There are…SO MANY. I just added so many books to my TBR from this list! Also, I just read Towering and hmm…how do I say this…it was intriguing to where I was thinking about some of the creepy parts while not reading, BUT the cheese parts were just too much…cringe worthy, to be honest.

Fearsome Journeys and Unfettered are probably two on here that I am most anticipating..also just requested The Caged Graves because it looks awesome!! YAY!

  7. Wow, so many fantastic books are coming out. I am SOOOO excited for Spirit and Dust. I just loved Texas Gothic.

I just finished Dare You To, and loved it. I really like Katie McGarry. Towering was okay, but I want to check out that other Rapunzel retelling.

  8. The ones I’m planning to pick up: Zenn Scarlett (a vet student? Sign me up), Under the Light, Wild Awake, and Handbook for Dragon Slayers. The rest, I’ll wait to see reviews! But all these comments make me curious about The 5th Wave!

  9. Reynje says:

Love your top 5 choices – I looking forward to those too! Really curious to see what you think of Out of This Place (Cinnamon Rain in Australia). I’m not hugely into verse novels, but I thought it was gorgeous.
