Hi friends! I figured since you all bore with me and I made it home alive, I’d give everyone a quick recap of our road trip–what we did, where we went, and what we saw. Largely in pictures, because I am still a bit tired to come up with words.
Stop 1: Chicago
I told you I requested the full Ferris Bueler, here’s what I got:
- Car left in (non-valet) parking garage.
- Wrigley Field
- [Walk near/around] art museum
- Good music (Lollapaloza in lieu of German parade)
- Snooty (and delicious) restaurant
Not bad, eh?
Stop 2: Eastern South Dakota–The Farm
We stopped to visit some of my cousins and my aunt and uncle in eastern South Dakota, visited the family farm, and stopped by De Smet on our way through! If you don’t know, De Smet is the Little Town on the Prairie, and I had the chance to see the schoolhouse attended by Mary and Laura, the school Laura taught at, Ma and Pa’s house, and of course the site of the Wilder homestead where Rose was born as you see above!
Stop 3: Western South Dakota–The Black Hills
We stopped by the family cabin in the Black Hills to spend some time with my Grandmother and enjoy the area. We headed to Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, and got to see Sturgis during bike week! Yes, the above pic is me and a rock from the mountain (don’t ask).
Stop 4: Wyoming–Home!
We stopped over at Devils Tower, went to the Nowoodstock bluegrass festival, had a fantastic time at my class reunion, and spent some great time in the Big Horn mountains and with my family. I have more cheesy me pics, but instead I thought I’d share the amazing view from Freezeout–a spot in the mountains near my home that is very dear to my family.
While in Chicago, I got engaged!
What this means for me: I have a wedding to plan! I was always very ‘let’s elope’, but slap a ring on my finger and I turn into a downright girl.
What this means for the blog: Well, for the next year I’m going to be even worse at commenting and giving you all the love you deserve, and I’m going to scale back from 3-4 posts per week to only 2 per week. I’m going to try to post consistently on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and more if I can, but I’m also going to try to make fewer commitments because I’m unsure if I’ll be able to keep them.
All in all, it was an amazing trip! Don’t forget, you can still enter to win your pick of any one of the books I mentioned in Booking It Across the US (over 75 choices!). I’ll be picking winners at the end of the month.
Now, time to dig into some Odyssey goodness for Classics Retold…hope to see some of you joining us in September!
