In my mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren in which you share the books you added to your collection in the past week.

book pile IMM 12

Hi friends!  I had another fantastic book week (is there a bad book week?), and picked up another stack of books I’m already worried about making time for.  Here’s what I picked up (as always, clicky for GoodReads):

Audiobook:

Anne of Green Gables – L.M. Montgomery:  I decided it was high time for a visit to Avonlea, it’s been too long, so I picked up an old book in a new format and am currently listening to Anne of Green Gables.  It’s absolutely lovely, I’m smiling more often than not while listening, and outright laughing a good deal as well.  Totally recommended for a re-read (or a first read!) of this book.

Library:

Faery Tales and Nightmares – Melissa Marr:  This hold finally came in for me, and I’m so excited to tear through this collection of short stories!  About half of them take place in the Wicked Lovely universe, so I’m planning to split of my Salute Your Shorts review between WL and non-WL stories.

Second Helpings – Megan McCafferty: This is the book I was most excited about getting my hands on this week.  I’m literally losing sleep over Jessica Darling and Marcus Flutie, and I cannot wait to crack this one open.

Saving Francesca – Melina Marchetta: About two weeks ago I mentioned Marchetta as one of the top authors on my TBR of Shame.  This week I picked up not one but two of her books, so soon I will be shameful no more!

Damned – Chuck Palahniuk: Palahniuk is one of my favorite adult authors.  He’s pretty much a must-read for me, and I was pumped when I saw Damned on Overdrive without a wait list.  Yoink!  And get this description from the author, YA readers, because if this doesn’t make you want to read this book, nothing will: “if The Shawshank Redemption had a baby by The Lovely Bones and it was raised by Judy Blume.” And “it’s kind of like The Breakfast Club set in Hell.”

Gifted:

I was outrageously gleeful to hear from Wendy that I won The Midnight Garden’s blogoversary giveaway of $25 to spend at The Book Despository.  Happy happy blogoversary to The Midnight Garden, and thank you so so much for the books! <3

Jellicoe Road – Melina Marchetta: My second Marchetta of the week, and this one’s to keep!  I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about Jellicoe Road, maybe more so than any of her other books as this was the Printz book.  Very excited to read it!

Daughter of the Forest – Juliet Marillier: Another book from my TBR of Shame!  I’ve been wanting to read Marillier for a long time, and I’ve heard such wonderful things about this series I cannot believe I haven’t picked it up years ago.

Good Omens – Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett: One of my all-time favorites!  This is my second copy, as I loaned the first out years ago and am pretty sure at this point I’ll never see that again.  I like to own my favorite books since I tend to reread, so happy to have this in my hands again!  I owned the Neil Gaiman cover last time, so it’s fun to mix it up and have the Terry Pratchett cover now.

Bought:

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord – Sarah J. Mass:  So….who’s excited for Throne of Glass?  This girl, for one!  I saw on GoodReads that there are three prequel shorts, and as I lurv this sort of thing, I snatched the first one up (the first one’s free, the other two are 99 cents a piece).

For Review:

Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Mass:  Omg you guys, this book sounds sooooooooo good!  After reading Grave Mercy I am all about female assassins, so I pretty much pounced all over this one on NetGalley.  Thanks Bloomsbury!

book cover of The Curiosities by Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton and Brenna Yovanoff

The Curiosities: A Collection of Stories – Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton, and Brenna Yovanoff:  So for the third time today, I am a lover of short stories, so when I saw Maggie Stiefvater tweet about The Curiosities, it immediately jumped on my radar.  This is my favorite cover of any book I picked up this week too, love it!  Was so happy to see it on NetGalley this week.  Thanks Lerner!

  3. Aww Anne of Green Gables is one of my favourite books! I once read the whole series over a couple of days when I was younger and ended up crying and feeling really depressed…not because of the stories but because I wanted her life so badly! The rest of the series isn't as good as the first but I still loved it!Faery Tales and Nightmares looks awesome! Will have to check it out. And with all the Maggie Steifvater on my list this week you would think I would've heard about 'The Curiosities'…but I haven't! Will have to get it!My IMM: http://www.pocketfulofbooks.com/2012/04/in-my-mailbox_07.html#more

  4. Hello there Heidi, you have such an amazing loot here. I love seeing Jellicoe Road since I have just recently bought one Melina Marchetta title, so I'm intrigued to know more about her award-winning books. The Curiosities also looks like a fascinating read, and wow, the book cover is just … awesome. And of course, you can't go wrong with Good Omens seeing that it's a combo of the two greatest storytellers there is, Gaiman and Pratchett. You're in for a treat. :)Here's mine over at GatheringBooks:http://gatheringbooks.wordpress.com/2012/04/08/in-my-mailbox-42-the-science-fiction-and-hardcore-fantasy-edition/

  5. Daughter of the Forest is sooooooo good! OMG I LOVE IT. Seriously. Also? I totally want to read Jellicoe Road and more Marchetta.Awesome, awesome mailbox! 😀

  6. Oh Anne of Green Gables, such a classic! I'll have to check the audiobook out sometime too. :)

  7. Throne of Glass! Faery Tales & Nightmares! I so want both of those. I'm reading Grave Mercy right now and I'm digging female assassins a lot too. I love Melissa Marr, so her collection of short stories is no doubt going to be amazing. I've heard fab things about Jellicoe Road, so I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I haven't read it yet! Have an amazing reading week!— Asher

Nice IMM. I can't wait to read Faery Tales and Nightmares. Marr is one of my fav authors. Enjoy your new goodies.

  12. Seriously. If Throne of Glass doesn't sound LEGIT, I don't know what does. I'm also still geeking out over that MG of hers. That NEEDS to happen, amirite?! But your mailbox is exploding with awesome stuff! Look at you! Daughter of the Forest and Jellicoe Road are so high on my TBR it's crazy. I need to read SOMETHING by Melina Marchetta, and I think Jellicoe Road is going to be my first, although I want to read Finnikin of the Rock pretty badly as well. I read the Jessica Darling series, but I feel like I wasn't in the mood for them and forced myself to finish them. Not because they weren't good, but you know, THE MOOD THING. I liked them, but I feel like other people LOVE them, and I'm curious if I legit thought they were just ok, or if I should have put them down and gone back to them later and if I read them again if I would love them more. Alas. I'm so glad that you're loving them, though. I always loved that they actually follow the characters over a significant period of time. LOVE that. :-) Enjoy YOUR mini-eggs, too!

  13. Jasmine Rose says:

Hmm. I've been hearing amazing things about Jellicoe Road since I started blogging so maybe it's about time I add it to my TBR…
